SWICA's 50 strong cast of carnival, circus and street performers (including professionals and performers from the community) are guaranteed to wow your audiences with this visually stunning 30 minute show, complete with acts of magic, levitation and illusion !

Be amazed as the doomed DR JOHN DEE (played by Cardiff street entertainer, Dave Id), the greatest thinker of the Elizabethan age, scientist and alchemist is bedevilled by his nemesis Edward Kelley (West African dancer and drummer, Idrissa Camara) who is a cunning conman and a false medium to boot.

A high-flying favourite of Queen Elizabeth I’s court, Dr. Dee becomes an invaluable spy and intelligence gatherer. During star-gazing sessions, Dr Dee predicts many key events of the Queen’s tumultuous reign. He even helps to appoint her coronation date.

Dr Dee signs his secret message to his Queen with his code sign ‘007’, inspiring the greatest secret agent of all time, James Bond !

Dr Dee founds the British Empire based on a gigantic fib (and the Queen’s own Welsh bloodline), this is the mythical discovery of the New World by Welsh Prince Madog in 1170 - well before Columbus.

Eventually, Dr Dee collaborates with Edward Kelley and conducts scientific séances or ‘MAGICK'. This dabbling in the Occult, as well as enforced wife-swapping, leads to his fall from Royal favour.

The show will be a feast for the eyes and ears, with full-on carnival costumes, songs and dances, somersaulting spring-heeled stilt performers, choreographed flags galore, a load of cheesy James Bond-related gags and the odd bout of witch burning - all performed to a live musical score by house-band, “The Magicians”.
