MYTHS, MINES AND MEMORIES
Using celebratory and participatory arts workshops the project re-united the community of Coed Cae with its own heritage and traditions. The project focused on the transformation of the area as a result of the Industrial Revolution. However it takes the extraordinary journals of ‘prophet’ REV. EDMUND JONES including his supernatural myth-based pre-Industrial geography of the area as its starting point – before dealing with Industrialisation and its aftermath. The project involved two local schools (infants and primary), the youth clubs – as well as the local Blaina Heritage Action Group. It culminated in an innovative multi-disciplinary performance outcomes as well as a large-scale multimedia community performance, song cycle recorded on CD and educational CD ROM and Teacher’s Pack as part of the project’s lasting legacy.
